Obituary of Dian N. Stephens

Jasper, NY | Dian N. Stephens, 81, of County Route 72, Jasper, NY, passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Rochester General Hospital in Rochester, NY. Dian was born in Canisteo on February 2, 1934, one of four daughters of the late Leslie and Lela (Page) Norton. She graduated from Alfred-Almond Schools and then attended Elmira Business Institute for a year. Prior to being married, Dian was employed by Steuben Trust Company. On November 20, 1954, she and Gerald "Jiggs" L. Stephens were married in Canisteo. They soon after purchased a farm in Jasper which has been Dian's home since. She was a homemaker and partner to Jiggs on the family dairy farm. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2001. Dian was a home body who dedicated her life to her large family. She adored her children and had a very special place in her heart for her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Besides her husband, Dian was predeceased by her sister, Kay Cayward. Surviving are her 11 children and their partners, Mark Stephens and Brenda Space of Jasper, Dave and Patty Stephens of Canisteo, Keith and Bonnie Stephens of Addison, Karen Stephens of Jasper, Jim and Melissa Stephens of Jasper, Pam and Rich Chapman of Arkport, Craig and Joliena Stephens of Jasper, Brenda and Luis Acosta of Boundbrook, NJ, Kathie and Paul White of Cohocton, Jeanne and Chris Rounsville of Cohocton and Mike and Becky Stephens of Cohocton, 23 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, her sisters, Jean (Bill) Young and Marilyn Fish, both of Canisteo and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Wednesday, June 3 from 7 to 9 pm and again on Thursday from 1 to 3 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 29 E. Main St. Canisteo. A memorial service will follow calling on Thursday at 3 pm with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating Burial will be made in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.��
