Rachel A. Strope, 84, of Jordan Road, Woodhull, formerly of Addison, entered into rest on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Rachel was born on March 9, 1931 in Ellenburg, NY, the only child of the late Henry and Grace (Arno) Nichols. She was a graduate of Ellenburg Central School. On July 22, 1950 she married Wallace D. Strope. They made their home in Addison and raised their family together there. Wally preceded Rachel in death on October 11, 1999. Rachel retired from Phillips Lighting in Bath after many years of employment there. She started her career there in 1964 when the business was operated by Westinghouse Electric. She was a communicant of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Addison. Rachel enjoyed knitting and was a very avid reader. Surviving are her children and their partners, W. David Strope (Denise Clark) of Addison, Dixie and Joe Calimeri of Coopers Plains, Debra & Ed Symonds of Woodhull and Donald Strope (Robin Fredericks) of Addison, 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and her beloved feline companions, Socks and Snoopy. Friends may call on Sunday, June 7 from 1 to 3 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Monday, June 8 at 11 AM at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Addison with Father Patrick Connor, celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Catherine's Cemetery, Addison. Memorials in Rachel's name may be made to the Disabled American Veterans. (www.
