Obituary of Eugertha Cady

GROVELAND: Eugertha Cady, 82, of Ste. Rte. 63 formerly of Rexville passed away Sunday (July 26, 2015) at the Bath VA Medical Center following a brief illness. Eugertha was born April 11, 1933 in Rexville, to Floyd and Bessie (Barnard) Houghtaling. On February 28, 1955 she married Gordon Charles Cady who predeceased her in March of 2006. She was also predeceased by an infant daughter: Brenda L. Brossoit, a son: Gordon Wayne Cady, four sisters: Marie Flint, Marjorie Payne, jessie Thompson and Alice Walrath, and four brothers: Bill Welch, Glenn Houghtaling, Floyd Houghtaling, Jr. and Leon Welch. Eugertha was a graduate of the Rexville Country School and also the Bryant and Stratton Business School where she received a degree in taxation. She was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force proudly serving our country from 1952-53 during the Korean War. After her service she married Gordon C. Cady and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and home maker. She loved to play cards with her family and friends, enjoyed crafting, quilting and crocheting and was an avid Yankees fan. Eugertha was also a member and former Commander of the Mt. Morris American Legion. Survivors include her four sons: Brian (Rebecca) Cady of Rexville, Leon Cady (Deb Herzog) of Groveland, Alan Cady of Cleveland, Ohio, and David Cady (Kimberly Barber) of Dansville, two sisters: Anna (Donald) Farrand of Woodhull and Dorothea Houghtaling of Hornell, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday, at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, where funeral and committal services with military honors will take place immediately following calling hours at 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo. In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made to Leon Cady, P.O.
