Obituary of Merritt Russell Price

Merritt Russell "Russ" Price Jr., 77, of Cty. Rte. 129, Woodhull, formerly of Jasper, died very suddenly on Sunday, September 13, 2015 in Greenwood, NY as the result of an auto accident. Born in New Berlin, NY on Nov. 1, 1937, he was the son of the late Merritt Russell and Mattie L. (Murphy) Price. Russ attended Jasper Central School where he graduated in 1954. Following high school he attended Rochester Business Institute. On April 15, 1961, Russ and the former Deanna R. Thomas were married at the Woodhull United Methodist Church. Deanna survives. Together they purchased a dairy farm in Jasper which they operated and raised their family of 13 children. The farm was affectionately known as No Tree Farm. Russ was also a practicing real estate agent for 25 years working for Wimple Real Estate. Upon retirement from farming, Russ and Deanna moved to Woodhull. Russ spent much of his life involved in sports, either playing, coaching or attending his children's and grandchildren's athletic events. His love of sports, though, paled in comparison to the love he had for his family and his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Surviving is his wife of 54 years, Deanna Price at home, his children and their spouses, Merritt & Julie Price of Salisbury, MD, Laurie and David Black of Charlotte, NC, Thomas and Britt Price of Jasper, Marita and Todd Saunders of Volens, VA, John and Julie Price of Gainesville, GA, Rhonda and Mike Pickard of Greenwood, MO, Amy and Tim Rossman of Lynchburg, VA, Bill and Karalea Price of Jamestown, NY, Bob and Joanna Price of Painted Post, Trevor and Yane Price of Jasper, Sam and Mary Beth Price of Lynchburg, VA and Megan and Richard Harrell of Port Shepstone, South Africa, 40 grandchildren, 1 great grandson, his brother, Hugh Price of Corning, his sisters, Judy (Dale) Hammond of Fort Pierce, FL and Joanie Price of Bath along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Russ was preceded in death by his daughter, Tammy Eldridge on Jan. 10, 2009, his brothers, David R. Price, Donald N. Price and Andrew D. Price and his sister, Jeanne M. Price. Friends may call on Thursday, Sept. 17 from 7-9 PM and again on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday at 11 AM at the Boyd's Corners Bible Church, Cty. Rte. 21, Cameron. Pastor Terry Moore will officiate with assistance from family friend Rev. Frank Lenahan. Burial will follow in Jasper Cemetery, Jasper, NY.
