Obituary of Evelyn Cora Bliss Caward

CANISTEO: Evelyn Cora Bliss Caward, 86, of Elm St. passed away Wednesday (Oct. 21, 2015) at McAuley Manor following a brief illness. Evelyn was born May 30, 1929 in the town of Troupsburg, to Leland and Maude (Jordan) Schoonover. On June 27, 1988 in Canisteo she married Vance E. Caward who predeceased her in February of 2000. She was also predeceased by two grandsons David and Joseph Cunningham as well as three brothers: Sherman, Clayton and Karl Schoonover and four sisters: Winona Lawton, Nina Bebout, Blanche Phillips and Glenna Yusko. Evelyn was a life long resident of the Canisteo Valley where she owned and operated her own floral shop and greenhouse on Elm Street in Canisteo the former "Canisteo Floral and Greenhouse" She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Canisteo, a past Matron of the Troupsburg Order of Eastern Star and was a member of the Stephens/Gray Class ladies group of the Methodist church. Evelyn is survived by three sons: Douglas (Sally) Bliss of Randolph, Dale (Patti) Bliss of Penn Yan, Larry (Manuela) Bliss of Canisteo, four daughters: JoAnn Detwiler of Appling, GA. Carol (Glenn) Streeter of Martinez, GA. Irene Osborn of Canisteo and Mary (Bruce) Wallmann of Rochester, two step children: Loren (Diane) Caward of Andover and Suzanne Lott of Bath. Evelyn is also survived by several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Friday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo. A funeral service will take place Saturday at 1:00 PM at the First United Methodist Church in Canisteo with the Rev. Beverly Welch officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo. Memorial contributions in Evelyn's name may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Greenwood St. Canisteo, N.Y. 14823.��
