CANISTEO/HOWARD: Jack A. Heater, 76, of Huges Rd. passed away unexpectedly Friday (March 2, 2012) at his home. Jack was born February 13, 1936 in Elmira to Austin and Margaret (Barber) Heater. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother William Heater. Jack worked as a railroad conductor from 1955 at Elmira for the Delaware/Lackawanna & Western Railroads. He then came to Hornell in 1962 to work on the Erie/Lackawanna until 1976, then moved on to Conrail which took him to Harrisburg, Pittsburgh and finally ended in Albany in 1985-91. Moving back to the Buena Vista area on his farm, he worked out of Buffalo for CSX until his retirement in 2002. He was a member of the United Transportation Union of Buffalo and was an avid railroad collector and railroad history enthusiast. Jack had also attended the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church where he was an active usher. Jack's greatest pleasure was his farm, his trains and his yellow lab Angel who went everywhere with him even to church. Jack's friendship will always be remembered as one filled with good humor, faith and confidence with a helping hand when ever needed. Survivors include a sister Joan Monichino of Horseheads and a niece Candy Jo Barber of Westmoreland, TN. There will be no prior calling hours.
