Obituary of Alfred N. Chace

JASPER: Alfred N. "Al" Chace, Jr., 64, of Timmerman Rd. passed away Friday (November 13, 2015) at his home, with the comfort and love of his family near him, after a long battle with cancer. Al was born June 24, 1951 in North Hornell to Alfred N. and Belva (Quick) Chace, Sr. On June 21, 1969 in West Jasper he married the former Helen Norris who survives and resides in Jasper. Al was predeceased by his parents, a brother Kevin Chace and a sister Jacqueline Kent. Al had worked for the Steuben County Highway Dept. as a truck driver and heavy machinery/equipment operator for over 30 years. He is remembered for being an honest, hard worker and almost never missed a day of work. In school, he never missed a day of school from 2nd grade to 10th grade. He was known for his mechanical ability and knowledge. After retiring, he enjoyed helping his neighbor and lifelong friends, the Cornell's. His four dogs were his best friends, Ginger, Opie, Chrissie and Bella were always with him. In addition to his wife of 46 years, Helen Chace of Jasper, Al is survived by two sons: Scott Chace (Kim Mosher) of Jasper, Matthew (Rebeca) Chace of Clifton Springs, two daughters: Belva Danvers of Lakewood, CO. and Genita (Ron) Hill of Jasper. He is also survived by a sister Jerrilynn McNulty of Jasper, 15 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, where a funeral service will take place immediately following calling hrs. at 8:00 pm. Burial will be in the Chace Family Cemetery, Timmerman Rd. in Jasper. Memorial contributions in Alfred "Al" Chace's name may be made to the West Jasper Wesleyan Church, 2621 Milwaukee Rd. Jasper, N.Y. 14855.��
