John William "Bill" Pepper, 89, of Absolut Care at Three Rivers, Painted Post, formerly of Addison, passed away on Sunday night, November 22, 2015 at Three Rivers. Bill was born in Addison on Oct. 4, 1926, the son of William E. and Clara (Reynolds) Pepper. He grew up in Addison and graduated from Addison Central School. Following school Bill entered the US Army and served from 1944 to 1946 with service in the Pacific Theater of World War II. He married the former Lois Wilson who survives. They were high school sweethearts and were life partners for 69 years. Bill worked for the Corning Leader for over 30 years, where he was a compositor. When the digital age changed the newspaper industry, he became a courier for Community Bank NA. Bill was a member of the Williams-Greengrass American Legion Post 730 in Addison, a former devoted member of Union Lodge 118 F&AM in Addison, a member of the First Baptist Church of Addison, more recently attended the Woodhull Community Church with Lois and he was a former Addison Town Councilman and Deputy Supervisor. A devoted family man, Bill's greatest pleasure and source of pride was in his family. He cherished time with his wife, children and especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Betty Spence, Geraldine Allison and Marjorie Ford. Surviving is his wife, Lois Pepper, also of Three Rivers, his sons and daughters in law, Thomas and Barbara Pepper of Addison, John W. and Penny Pepper of Woodhull, his daughters and sons in law, Nancy and Brian Wirta of South Windsor, CT and Laura and Bus Fenton of Addison, his grandchildren, Melissa (Ken) Wormley, John (Tara) Pepper Jr., Alicia (Heath) Studer, Susan (Dustin) Walker, Shane (Alyssa) Wirta, Jennifer (Nick) Wirta Cohs, Chris (Sara) Fenton and Ashley (Ben) Bowers, 17 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, his brother, James (Kay) Pepper of Addison and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Wednesday, Nov. 25 from 2-4 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. A memorial service will follow at 4 PM with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery. Memorials in Bill's name may be made to the Addison Vol. Fire Dept.
