Paul D. Brown, 70, of Mack Road, Addison (Town of Tuscarora), died very suddenly on Monday, January 18, 2016 at Corning Hospital after being stricken at home. Paul was born in Corning on August 7, 1945, the son of the late Lee Frederick and Elizabeth Ruth (Thomson) Brown. Growing up in the Addison area, he was a graduate of Addison Central School. While in school he teamed up with his brother David and competed in doubles table tennis, winning a sectional title. He also spent many hours on the family farm as a boy helping his uncle Paul in the operation of the farm. He enlisted in the US Army and served his country during the Vietnam War. Returning from the service, Paul went to work for Ingersoll Rand Co. in Painted Post where he eventually retired from Dresser Rand Co. with 42 years of active employment. On April 27, 1974, Paul and the former Debra Hand were married at the Tuscarora Baptist Church with Rev. Karl Schoonover officiating. Deb survives. Paul was a great competitor. He had been a very active league bowler at Elkland Lanes and enjoyed rounds of golf with friends and family. He was a great supporter of Addison Central School basketball programs. He loved deer hunting and always looked forward to his annual hunts with his nephews. An avid outdoorsman and shooting enthusiast, Paul belonged to the Addison Fish and Game Club as well as the Keystone Rod and Gun Club in Muncy, PA. He was also a former member of the Corning Fish and Game Club. An active and skilled trap shooter, Paul was the 2015 Eastern Zone Veterans Champion of the American Trap Shooting Assoc. at the Michael E. Campbell Handicap Trap Competition in Elysburg, PA, a win that he took great pride in. Paul was a kind and sweet man who was loved by all that knew him. He loved his family dearly and had no foes in the world. He is survived by his loving wife of over 41 years, Debra Brown of Tuscarora, his sister, Myrna Husted of Warren, Ohio, his half brother, Arnold Brown of Elmira, his sisters in law, Linda (Larry) Nowicki and Dellis Hand, his brothers in law, Stephen (Cindy) Hand Sr. and Christopher (Anne) Hand and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, David Brown, his half brothers, Russell Brown and Leo Brown, his half sister, Virginia Sly, his uncle, Paul Thomson, his aunt, Esther Williams, Deb's parents, Dallas and Lila Hand Jr. and his brothers in law, Percy Husted and John Hand. Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 22 from 7-9 PM and again on Saturday from noon to 2 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY.
