Obituary of Barbara A. McConnell

Barbara A. McConnell, 79, formerly of Hardscrabble Road, Town of Rathbone, NY, died on Friday, January 22, 2016 at the home of her sister in Rock Stream, NY. Barb was born in Tunkhannock, PA on Sept. 15, 1936. She was a 1956 graduate of Addison Central School and shortly after her graduation began a 40 year career with the Ingersoll Rand Co. in Painted Post where she was employed as a supervisor in the payroll department. On Aug. 29, 1970 she married James McConnell. Jim preceded Barb in death on January 5, 2003. She was also predeceased by her mother Viola, her brothers, Mike McConnell and Raymond McConnell, her brother in law, David Perry and her niece and her husband, Deborah Perry Fuller and Norman Fuller. Barb was a member of the Wooly Hill Spinning Club in Woodhull. She was known for her love of animals of which there were always many on her farm, which was known as Pharaohs Valley. She loved to knit, build things, grow her own vegetables and hand spin her own wool. At Christmas time, you could always expect to receive a new scarf with matching socks made with Barbara's love. Surviving is her sister, Laura Perry of Rock Stream, nieces, Lorena (Jeff) Tobey and Judy Perry, both of Rock Stream, her step sisters, Mabel (Bruce) Brewster of Canaseraga, NY and Beverly (Ronald) Manning of Genesee, PA, great nieces, Lisa (Russ) Austin of Florida, Sarah Tobey (Charlie Scaptura) of Watkins Glen, Jamie Tobey of Rock Stream and Michelle (Zach) Portelli of Oswego, NY, great great nephew, Rocco Portelli and many special friends. Friends and family may call on Friday, January 29 from 1 to 2 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow there at 2 PM with Rev. Robert Stuart officiating. Burial will follow in Woodhull Cemetery. Memorials in Barb's name may be made to the Finger Lakes SPCA in Bath.��
