Obituary of Mylie M. Pfitzenmaier

CANISTEO: Mylie M. Pfitzenmaier, 71, of 43 Chestnut Street, passed away peacefully Saturday (January 30, 2016) at her home following a courageous twenty month battle with brain cancer. Mylie was born on May 2, 1944 in Corning, N.Y. to parents Melvin and Jessie (Crane) McLean and was one of ten siblings. She spent her early years on Baker Street in Corning and later moved with her family to Chambers, N.Y. Mylie attended Northside High School and Corning Community College. She began her work career at Corning Glass Works where for several years she was employed in their Research Library. In 1964 Mylie met and married Robert Pfitzenmaier. Last August they celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary. In 1967, Mylie and Bob moved to their present home in Canisteo and Mylie began her career as a mother and housewife. After raising her three children, Mylie returned to work at First State Bank in Canisteo and retired in 1998 after 17 years of service. Mylie also loved to travel and over the years she and Bob were fortunate to be able to visit many interesting places. Their travels stretched from the Mediterranean to the Hawaiian Islands and many places in between. Mylie was always looking for new adventures. Her hobbies ranged from gardening to quilting to collecting teddy bears. She was always health conscious and walking and exercising were part of her daily routine. Mylie enjoyed people and loved to socialize. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Canisteo and served in several clerical and administrative positions over the years. She also was active in the Wimodaughsian Library and was an avid reader. Mylie is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert "Bob" Pfitzenmaier of Canisteo, two daughters: Susan (Jeffrey) Kenefick of Caton and Nicole (Jeffrey) Harrington of Penfield, one son: Michael (Margaret) Pfitzenmaier of Lancaster, Pa. 7 grandchildren: Cassidy and Cameron Kenefick, Mason and Caden Harrington, and Lillian, Jackson and Trent Pfitzenmaier. Mylie is also survived by four brothers: Walter McLean, Byron (Beverly) McLean and Franley (Sheila) McLean all of Corning and Martin (Sharry) McLean of Addison, two sisters: Marcie Jayne of Tyrone and Frances Raker of Corning and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and three brothers, Corliss, Justin and Vernon McLean. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm Saturday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo. A memorial service will take place immediately following calling hrs. at the First Presbyterian Church in Canisteo at 2:00 pm. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Mylie Pfitzenmaier's name may be made to either Care First, 3805 Meads Creek Rd., Painted Post, N.Y. 14870 or to the Wimodaughsian Free Library, 19 West Main St. Canisteo, N.Y. 14823.��
