Obituary of Nicholas J. McNeill

HORNELL: Nicholas J. "Nick" McNeill, 54, of North Main St. passed away unexpectedly of natural causes at his home Thursday (March 17, 2016). Nick was born March 16, 1962 in Hornell to Emmett McNeill and Rebecca (Ahearn) Kinney. He was a graduate of Greenwood Central School class of 1981 and had been employed in the shipping dept. at the Gunlocke Furniture Company in Wayland for the past 15 years. He was a member of the Hornell Moose Lodge #210, the Hornell Association and was a social member of the Canisteo American Legion. Nick enjoyed NASCAR racing and was a fan of both Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. He also enjoyed his time outdoors where he occasionally like to hunt, but really enjoyed his time camping. Nick is survived by his son Justin McNeill of Greenwood, daughters: Aimee McNeill of Olean, Jesica Breed of Hornell and Alicia Walsh of AL. close friend Mary Helgerson McNeill of Greenwood, his father Emmett (Patricia) McNeill of Hornell, his mother Rebecca (Ahearn) Kinney of Ulysses, Pa. five brothers: Sidney (Lisa) McNeill of Hornell, Daniel McNeill of FL. Joseph (Kimberly) Schmitt of Blair, OK., Matthew (Lynda) McNeill of Canisteo and Patrick McNeill of Hornell. He is also survived by three sisters: Colleen McNeill of Wellsboro, Pa., Nancy (Robert) Stewart of Smicksburg, Pa. and Lorellie Schmitt of Wayland, as well as four grandchildren: Bently McNeill, Casyn Shay, Kiley Walsh and Alexa Breed and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and cousins. Nick was predeceased by a brother Michael Schmitt in August of 1980. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo where evening prayers will take place at 8:45 pm. A mass and Christian burial will take place Wednesday at 10:00 am at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rexville. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Churchyard Cemetery in Rexville. Memorial contributions in Nicholas McNeill's name may be made to either the Hornell Area Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Rd. Hornell, N.Y. 14843 or to the Hornell Moose Lodge #210 Scholarship Fund, Seneca Rd. Hornell, N.Y. 14843.��
