Obituary of Gerald A. Gabel

Gerald A. Gabel, 80, of Elcor Health Care in Horseheads, formerly of Tuscarora, passed away on Friday, April 1, 2016 at Corning Hospital. Born in Corning on August 6, 1935, Jerry was the son of the late Allison and Dorothy Corsen Gabel. He attended Addison schools. Jerry retired from Corning Inc. in 1991 after 40 years of service. He worked as an electrician for Corning and his skills were widely requested throughout Corning's many facilities around the country. On June 18, 1993, he and Zelda Wyatt Thomas were married in Gowanda, NY. Zelda survives. Jerry truly enjoyed social activities as he was a charter member of the Addison Eagles Aerie, a life member of the Corning Moose Lodge and a member of the Twin Rivers CB Club in Tuscarora. He and Zelda wintered in Florida for 18 years and would stay at the CB Grounds every summer when they returned north. He was an avid golfer and he spent many enjoyable days on the golf course, here and in Florida. Surviving is his wife, Zelda Thomas-Gabel of Tuscarora, his daughter and son in law, Judy and Tim Dee of Wilmington, NC, his step son, Todd (Lisa) Thomas of Philadelphia, PA, his step daughter, Elizabeth (Jerry) Zolkosky of Pine Valley, NY, his grandchildren, Casey Schooley, Kimberly Schooley, Darin Jorgensen, Danielle Lewis, Donald Beard, Aaron Empson, Lydia Thomas, Gabrielle Thomas, Sam Thomas, Noah Thomas, Joshua Zolkosky, Caleb Zolkosky and Rebekah Zolkosky, 12 great grandchildren, his sister, Jeanine (Richard) Taft of Tuscarora and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his step daughter, Denise Allen on June 24, 2011 and by his sister, Janet Casbeer. A Celebration of Life will be held to honor Jerry on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 12 noon to 3 PM at the Addison Eagles Club, St. Rte. 417, Addison, NY.
