Obituary of Robert E. Burchard

CANISTEO: Robert E. "Bob" Burchard, 64, of Dunning Rd. passed away Sunday (April 3, 2016) at the Bath VA Medical Center following an extended illness. Bob was born April 11, 1951 in Hornell to Richard and Cecile (Judd) Burchard. He was a graduate of Canisteo Central School class of 1971 and was a veteran of the US Army from 1972-83. He was a former member of Canisteo Boy Scout Troop 83 where he obtained the privileged rank of Eagle Scout in 1967. Bob had at one time been employed at the Gunlocke Co. in Wayland and General Marble of Hornell. After18 years at the Bath VA Medical Center he retired in 2013 as a domiciliary assistant. He was a member of the Canisteo Rod & Gun Club and Canisteo American Legion and a former member of the Canisteo Fire Dept. Bob was a very avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish with his family and friends and also enjoyed camping, and riding his four wheeler and motorcycle. Bob is survived by a sister: Wanda (Thomas) White of Hornell, two brothers: Richard (Linda) Burchard of Hornell and Alan J. "AllieJoe" (Darla) Burchard of Canisteo. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Jay and Michelle Krisher, Renae Erskine, Jason and Joshua Burchard, Mary Bohinger and Tonya Burchard as well as 10 great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brother LaVerne Burchard. At Bob's request there will be no calling hours or service. A celebration of his life will be announced at a place and time at a later date. Memorial contributions in Bob's name may be made to the Canisteo Fire Dept. 35 Main St. Canisteo, N.Y. 14823.
