CANISTEO: Nita M. Welles, 81, formerly of Russell St. passed away peacefully Thursday (April 7, 2016) at The Steuben Center in Bath where she had resided since August of 2013. Nita was born October 22, 1934 in Hornell to William and Vera (House) Murray. In 1953 she married Ronald W. Welles who survives and resides in Bath. Nita was a graduate of Canisteo Central School. In later years she enrolled at the St. James School of Nursing where she earned and received her LPN, (License Practical Nursing) degree and had worked at the former Bethesda Hospital in North Hornell. For many years Nita was an accomplished seamstress running her own business, Nita's Custom Fashions and Bridal Shop, out of her own home in Canisteo and store front on West Main St. She was also a devoted housewife and mother who was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canisteo, a former Cub Scout den mother, she was on the Southern Tier Council of Girl Scouts, a member of the Sweet Adelines in Hornell and a member of the local lady's Stitchery Club" In addition to her husband Ronald Welles, to whom she was married to for 63 years, Nita is survived by a son William (Marsha) Welles of Arkansas, three daughters: Wendy (Glen) Hays of Canisteo, Cindy Welles of Rochester, Betsy (Bernard) Burns of Cohocton and Christine (Scott) Jable of Naperville, IL. Six wonderful grandchildren: Josh Stillman, Liz and Nate Buchholz, Luke Obuhanich, and Cole and Addison Jable. She is also survived by two sisters; Jan (Daniel) Todd of Canisteo and Patricia Layton of Belmont. Nita was predeceased by her parents, one son Terry Welles and a brother Robert Adams. At Nita's request there will be no calling hours. A memorial service and celebration of her life will take place Monday at 4:00 pm the First Baptist Church, Greenwood St. in Canisteo, with Pastor James Patton officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in Nita Welles's name may be made to either the Wimodaughsian Free Library, 19 West Main St. Canisteo, N.Y. 14823 or to the Canisteo Living Sign Project, payable to the Canisteo-Greenwood Central School District, 84 Greenwood St. Canisteo, N.Y. 14823.�� Service: Monday: April 11, 2016 4:00 PM�� First Baptist Church Greenwood St. Canisteo, N.Y.�� Visitation: No Prior Calling Hrs.
