Addison, NY | Richard A. "Skip" Starkey, 73, of St. Rte. 417, Addison, died suddenly on Saturday, May 7, 2016 as the result of a motorcycle accident in Corning. Born in Woodhull, NY on Nov. 8, 1942, he was the son of the late Alonzo E. and Greta Smith Starkey. He attended Woodhull High School. Skip served in the US Marine Corps. A certified crane operator, Skip was employed by several large construction companies in the region including Dalrymple Construction (later Chemung Contracting), Cold Spring Construction and Mansfield Crane. Even following his retirement, he was often asked to assist with crane operations by area firms. Skip was a member of the Addison Eagles Aerie and Williams-Greengrass American Legion Post in Addison and a former member of the Addison Fire Department. He was an avid motorcyclist and was always very proud of his Harley Davidson motorcycles. He also was a great dirt track racing advocate, being both a car owner and driver in modified dirt racing. Skip was a dedicated family man and adored his wife, daughter and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Audrey Space Starkey of Addison, his daughter and son in law, Lori and Don Darby of Addison, his grandchildren, Kayla Darby and Kain Darby, his step father, Laverne Dickerson of Addison, his brother, Donald (Carol) Starkey of Honeyoye, NY, his beloved chocolate lab, Junior, his dear cousin, Shirley (Bob) Smith of Caton, his mother in law, Roberta Space of Addison, his brother in law, James (Karen) Space of Horseheads and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo Starkey and Greta Smith Starkey Dickerson and his brother, Gordon "Corky" Starkey. Following Skip's wishes. a private viewing was provided for the family with no services planned. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery. ��
