Addison, NY | Rev. Sandra H. Olmstead, 76, of Steuben St., Addison, passed away at home on Monday, May 30, 2016 in the presence of her loving family. Sandy was born in Corning on February 25, 1940, the daughter of the late Leonard and Bernice Perry Hoaglin. She was a graduate of Addison Central School. She attended Corning Community College and was a member of the first graduating class there in 1960. On July 1, 1960, she and Samuel D. Olmstead were married at the First Presbyterian Church of Addison. Sandy and Sam made their home in the Washington, DC area for 20 years where she was employed as a bookkeeper for Southern Presbytery. They later moved to Iowa, spending nine years there. While in Iowa, Sandy had a calling to the ministry and attended classes at Iowa Wesleyan College. They returned to their home town of Addison and Sandy studied further at Wesley Theological Seminary. She served as pastor for the Rathbone - Cameron Mills Methodist Churches, then the United Methodist Church of Addison and eventually at the Presho United Methodist Church. For a time she was ministering all four congregations at the same time. Sandy took classes at Robert Packer Hospital in Clinical Pastoral Education, preparing her for hospital chaplain duties. She was on the chaplain staff of Corning Hospital. Even following retirement, Sandy was called on often for church service coverage and funeral services in the area. An avid reader, Sandy would often devour a complete book in a day. She was a wonderful cook, a craft she truly enjoyed. She loved music, especially the music of her youth and spiritual songs. She and Sam always enjoyed their time spent on Crescent Lake together. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Bernice Hoaglin and by her brother, David Hoaglin. Surviving is her husband Samuel Olmstead of Addison, her sons and daughter in law, Steven Olmstead of Addison and Shawn and Kathe Olmstead of Binghamton, her step granddaughters, Lauren Rooney and Colleen Rooney and her sister, Rev.
