Obituary of Owen L. Knowles

Troupsburg, NY | Owen L. Knowles, 87, of County Route 83, Troupsburg, NY, passed away at Corning Hospital on Monday, June 6, 2016 with his loving family by his side. Born in Corning on Nov. 21, 1928, Owen was the son of the late Lee and Josephine (Fisk) Knowles. He was raised in Campbell but moved to Troupsburg to reside with his uncle following the untimely deaths of his parents. He graduated from Troupsburg Central School. On Dec. 23, 1950, Owen married the former Clara L. Hogue. She preceded him in death on June 28, 1999. He operated a very well managed dairy farm in Troupsburg along with working as an independent building and heavy equipment contractor. Farming was his primary venture where he raised many prize winning Holstein cows which he would compete with in regional cattle shows. Owen was a member of the Steuben Allegany Holstein Club as well as a board member and former President of the Steuben County Fair. He was the 2014 recipient of the Troupsburg Citizen of the Year Award as well as a lifelong member of the Troupsburg Methodist Church. Surviving are his son and daughter in law, Murray and Deanie Knowles of Troupsburg, his grandchildren, Bradley Knowles (Crystal Seelye), Trisha (Trevor) Perkins, Sonia (James) Crane, Levi Knowles and Lauryn Curren, exchange student grandson, Muhammad Carlos of Indonesia, great grandchildren, Brooke, Kaiden, Klaire, David, Kale and Chase, dear friend, Berdina Cornell of Troupsburg, special nephew, Hugh Knowles along with many other nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Clara, Owen was preceded in death by his sisters, Ida Danaher, Julia Clark and Margaret Carson and his brother, Paul Knowles. Friends may call on Thursday, June 9 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday at 11 AM at the Troupsburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Timothy Wright officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Troupsburg.
