HOWARD/CANISTEO: Richard L. "Rick" Harrison, 64, of McBeth Rd. town of Howard formerly of Cline Hill, Canisteo, passed away Monday (July 11, 2016) at the Bath VA Medical Center following an extended illness. Rick was born August 3, 1951 in Hornell to Frank and Betty (Vance) Harrison. On December 3, 2015 he married Betty J. Walden who survives and resides in Howard. Rick was a graduate of Canisteo Central School and served 20 years in the U.S. Navy from 1970-1990. He was a dog warden for the town of Woodhull for a number of years before being stricken ill. Rick was an avid collector of stamps, coins and rocks. In addition to his wife Betty J. (Walden) Harrison of Howard, Rick is survived by a nephew Gary V. Harrison, II of Bolivar and two uncles: Virgil Harrison of Pa. and Robert Harrison of Catskill, N.Y. and several cousins. Rick was predeceased by his parents and a brother Gary Harrison. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Friday at the H.P. Smith & Son ,Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, where a funeral will take place at 11:00 am Saturday. Burial with military honors will be in Fairview Cemetery in Towlesville, N.Y. Memorial contributions in Rick's name may be made to the Howard Public Library, 3607 Cty.
