Obituary of Maude R. Cornell

Maude R. Cornell, 93, of Hornell Garden, Hornell, formerly of Jasper, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Hornell Garden. Maude was born in Howard, NY on Oct. 29, 1922. Her parents were Bernace Eckler Ingersoll and Adna J. Ingersoll. She was a graduate of Addison High School. On July 31, 1942, she and Edgar Eugene Cornell were married at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rexville, NY. Gene preceded Maude in death on May 5, 2014. She and Gene operated a dairy farm together in Jasper. As many women of her era did, Maude had worked in various jobs to help provide for the family. She retired as Housekeeping Supervisor from Hornell Garden after many years of service there. She was a former member of the Jasper Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. A member of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Parish, Maude had attended St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Canisteo. She had been an active committee member of Jasper's annual Old Home Day committee and had at one time been named as Jasper's Citizen of the Year. Besides her husband Gene, Maude was predeceased by her siblings, Bernita Brouse, Mervin Ingersoll and Elwyn Ingersoll. Surviving are her sons and their wives, Gary and Dawn Cornell of Hornell, Donald and Tanis Cornell of Dallas, TX and Patrick and Maureen Cornell of Jasper, her grandchildren, Michelle (Mark) Pogue, Jody (Todd) Palmer, Penny Wolfe, Jennifer Cornell, Jay (Ginger) Cornell, Christopher (Melanie) Cornell, Paul (Dina) Cornell, Dane (Holly) Cornell and Sarabeth Cornell, her great grandchildren, Torin Pogue, Payton Cornell, Dana Crow, Ainsley Cornell and Ella Cornell, her sister, Norva (Al) Cordova of Cannon City, CO and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, July 19 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Maude's funeral service will be conducted there on Wednesday at 10 AM with Deacon Robert Colomaio officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Churchyard Cemetery, Rexville, NY.
