Arnold S. Herrington, 71, of County Route 101, Addison, NY, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira. Born in Corning, NY on Feb. 14, 1945, Arnold was the only child of the late Frank and Thelma (Lewis) Herrington. Raised in the Addison area, he was a graduate of Addison Central School. He enlisted in the US Navy, serving his country from 1966 to 1970 as a Yeoman 2nd Class Submariner. He attended Corning Community College and University of New Haven where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Engineering. In 1970, he began his long career with the General Dynamics Submarine Division, The Electric Boat Co., in New London, CT. On Aug. 3, 1985, he married Eileen B. Van Cor in Wells, Maine. In doing so, Arnold acquired a ready- made large family, which he loved dearly. Upon his retirement from General Dynamics, Arnold and Eileen returned to the area and made their home in the family homestead in Borden, NY He became active in community affairs after moving home. He was a Town of Woodhull Councilman where he also took on the role as Superintendant of the Woodhull Municipal Gas Co. He and Eileen were members of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Elkland and also active members in the Woodhull Community Friends Senior Citizen Group. He served on the Board of Aging in Place in Bath, an advocate organization for senior citizens. Surviving is his wife, Eileen Herrington of Addison, his children, Sandra (Randy) Eaton of Lisbon, Maine, Sharon (Darin) Seiber of Spokane, Washington, Shelia (Richard) Olbrei of San Antonio, Texas, Brenda (David) Young of Somerset, Texas, Judson (Susan) Van Cor of Bradford, Mass. and John (Lory) Van Cor of Apollo Beach, FL, 16 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.. Friends and family may call on Sunday, July 24 from 1-3 and 6-8 PM and again on Monday from 10 to 11 AM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Arnold's funeral service will follow there on Monday at 11 AM with Rev. John Kita officiating. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery.
