Addison, NY | John E. McChesney Jr., 45, of Orr Hill Road, Addison, died very unexpectedly on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Goodhue Lake in Addison due to drowning. John was born in Corning on Feb. 22, 1971, the son of John E. "Butch" and Linda D. (Newell) McChesney. He grew up in East Corning and was a 1990 graduate of Corning-Painted Post East High School. While in high school, John was a very talented wrestler and holds a school record for the fastest pin in a school meet. As a young man, John had worked for Zeiser Wilbert Vault Co. in Elmira. He later became a landscaper with Page's Landscaping in Campbell, working there for 14 years. Most recently he had been employed at the Addison 7 11 store. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt deer, fish and kayak. John was a very generous man and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. John married Joy Carl on June 14, 2010 in Gowanda, NY. Joy survives. Surviving along with his wife Joy of Addison are his son, Austin McChesney of Addison, his step daughter, Tina Tompkins (Paul Newell) of Addison, his step son, Jody (Stacey) Bower of Knoxville, PA, 7 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, his mother, Linda McChesney of Addison, his brother, Shawn (Christine) McChesney of Beaver Dams and their children, Susan McChesney and Michael McChesney, his half sister, Jody (Lewis) Updike of Corning, special family members, Burt Parks, Jonathan Carl and Lance McCaig and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. John was preceded in death by his father, John E. "Butch" McChesney on Sept. 30, 2011, his maternal grandparents, Harriett and Oliver Newell and his uncle, Lonnie McChesney. Family and friends may call on Tuesday, July 26 from 6-8 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow at 8 PM with Rev. Pete Miller officiating.��
