HORNELL/BELLE HAVEN: Jack L. Ordway, 85, of Dineen Rd. passed away Wednesday (April 18, 2012) at the Bath VA Medical Center. Jack was born March 26, 1927, in Hornell, to Bertram and Carrie Elizabeth (Baker) Ordway. On September 26, 1948 in Hornell he married Rosamond Hubert who survives and resides in Bath. He was predeceased by six brothers: Clarence, Rex, Edward, Allison, Lawrence and Kenneth Ordway and two sisters: Ida Granger and Genevieve Ordway. Jack was a graduate of Hornell High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during WWII from 1945-46 attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was a surveyor for the NYSDOT for 20 years retiring in 1988. Jack was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hornell and was one of the regular Tuesday "work bee guys" helping with yard work and other maintenance duties. He also loved to sing and for a period of time sang in the church choir. One of Jack's great passions was golf. He loved to play golf with family and friends and was a member of the Twin Hickory Golf Course. His accomplishments on the golf course through the years even included a few "Holes-in-one". Knowing Jack meant knowing a man with a pleasant and friendly smile and whose company was always welcomed and enjoyed. In addition to his wife Rosamond to whom he was married to for 63 years, Jack is survived by a daughter Kari Ordway of Bath, a son Brad (Mary) Ordway also of Bath and his four grand children: Joshua (Erin) Ordway, Aubri (Jeffrey) Enders, Keegan Ordway and Braedyn Ordway. He also has five great grand children: Jace and Trey Ordway and Zach, Mia and Griffin Enders. Jack is also survived by a brother, Richard (Jennie) Ordway of Almond and a sister Roselind Drumm of Upland, Calif. as well as several nieces and nephews. There will be no prior calling hrs. or visitation. A memorial service will take place Saturday at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church in Hornell with the Rev. Jerry Springston officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions in Jack's name may be made to the First Baptist Church, 28 Church St. Hornell, N.Y. 14843.
