JASPER: Phyllis A. (Irvine) Mayo, 84, of School St. passed away Tuesday (August 2, 2016) in Wellsville. Phyllis was born November 17, 1931 in Jasper to Robert and Alice (Walrath) Irvine. On September 10, 1950 in Jasper she married Harley R. Mayo who predeceased her September 1, 2013. She was also predeceased by a sister Frances Gage and a brother Robert A. Irvine, Jr. Phyllis was a life long resident of Jasper and had worked for 27 years at the Jasper Central School District starting out as a Kindergarten aide and finishing her career as an elementary librarian's aide. She was an avid quilter who helped start the "Ladies Quilting Group" in Jasper who still actively meet to quilt and socialize. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and going to yard sales with Harley. Phyllis adored all her pets and in particular her little dog "Curly" First and foremost, she loved the time spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include a son Marvin Mayo (Jerry Hoppe) of Desert Hot Springs, CA. her three daughters: Debbie (Bill) Shea of Jasper, Deanna (Glenn) Meteer of Charlotte, N.C. and Peggy (Paul) Taft of Woodhull. Six wonderful grandchildren; Amy (Brian) Aldrich, Kelly (Nick) Marsh, Justin Taft (Julie Knowles), Colin (Teresa) Taft, Brett O'Dell and Kerri (Jeff) Jones and nine great grandchildren: Taylor, Brooke, Keira, Harrison, Connor, Liberty, Sierra, Shelby and TJ. Phyllis is also survived by a sister: Donna Dennis and a sister-in-law Eva Irvine both of Jasper, nieces and nephews. At Phyllis's request there will be no public calling hours or service. A private family funeral will be at the convenience of the family at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Canisteo. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery, Woodhull, N.Y. Memorial contributions in Phyllis Mayo's name may be made to any local Humane Society and either Care First, 3805 Meads Creek Rd. Painted Post, N.Y. 14870, the American Heart Association, 59 Court St. Binghamton, N.Y. 13901 or the Tourette Syndrome Association, 42-40 Bell Blvd. Suite 205, Bayside, N.Y. 11361.
