Obituary of Victor J. Newburey

CANISTEO: Victor J. Newburey, Jr., 62, of Ste. Rte. 36 passed away Friday (August 5, 2016) at his home following a brief illness. Victor was born July 28, 1954 in Augusta, Ga. To Victor J. and Maxine (Smith) Newburey, Sr. On July 31, 1993 in Hornell, he married the former Penny L. Ebner who survives and resides in Canisteo. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister: Ruth Smith. Victor was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving our country proudly from 1975-81. He was a self- employed contractor who worked for many area contractors as well as for himself. He was a member of the Canisteo American Legion and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and NASCAR fan favoring the Earnhardt racing teams. Victor is survived by his wife Penny Newburey of Canisteo, a son Victor J. Newburey, III of Cansiteo., and a daughter Rachel Goniglio. He is also survived by eight sisters: Naomi (James) Clark of Hornell, Sherry Smith of Hornell, Shirley (Brian) Ketchum of TN., Sue Winter of GA., Norma (Jack) Yarka of Cameron, Dawn Newburey of ME, Pam Balfour of FL. and Berta Learn of Dansville, two brothers: Tony and Robert Newburey both in the armed services. Several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo where a memorial service will take place immediately following calling hrs. at 8 pm. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
