Please share a memory of Dean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dean Bartholomew, 82, of Clear View Drive, Geneseo, NY, formerly of Addison, died quite suddenly on Friday, September 2, 2016 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Dean was born in Tioga, PA on June 10, 1934, the son of the late Roy J. and Elma (Boyden) Bartholomew. He was a 1954 graduate of Elkland High School. Following high school, Dean entered the US Army and served in Korea during the Korean Conflict, attaining the rank of Sergeant. On June 27, 1958, he married the former Joanne VanSchaick in Tuscarora. Joanne survives. Dean was employed in the transportation department of the Addison Central School District. He served many years as head mechanic and retired as the transportation supervisor for the district. He was also the driver trainer there for 22 years. Even after retirement, Dean worked part time there and was recognized recently for 55 years of service to the school. Dean and Joanne are long time members of the Tuscarora Baptist Church. Dean was very community oriented, serving as a town councilman for the Town of Tuscarora, sitting on the nominating committee of REA and also was a former scoutmaster for Addison Troop 227 BSA. Music was a huge part of Dean's life. As a young adult he became hooked on playing the guitar which he learned merely by picking with some friends and neighbors. He developed a love for bluegrass music and skillfully played guitar in many bluegrass bands in the area. His greatest amount of enjoyment and pride came as he instilled similar love for music in his four sons and they too developed into fine musicians. They created their own bluegrass group known as the Bartholomew Family Bluegrass Band. They have performed together for years in the area. Dean was a founding member of the Southern Tier Bluegrass Association. Surviving is Dean's wife of 58 years, Joanne Bartholomew of Geneseo, his four sons and their wives, David and Tracy Bartholomew of Wyoming, NY, Scott and Lori Bartholomew of Wyoming, NY, Dale and Valerie Bartholomew of Corfu, NY and Terry and Jean Bartholomew of Pavilion, NY, his grandchildren, Wayne (Carrie) Bartholomew, Wendy (Matt) Vianese, Melissa Bartholomew, Kristen (Branden) Morseman, Laura Bartholomew, Melanie Bartholomew, Devon (Kate) Bartholomew and Collin Bartholomew, his siblings, Doris Butler of Lindale, TX, Jay (Pat) Bartholomew of Millerton, PA, Mary Butler of Tioga, PA, Dick (Sharrie) Bartholomew of Madison, VA and Joe (Ellen) Bartholomew of Mansfield, PA along with many nieces and nephews.
