CANISTEO: Gerald H. "Jerry" Beyea, 70, of Taylor St. passed away Wednesday (Sept. 28, 2016) at Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville, New York following a short illness. Jerry was born May 31, 1946 in Hornell to the late Howard and Margaret (Fox) Beyea. On August 5, 1967 he married the former Norva "Ike" Waight who survives and resides in Canisteo. Jerry worked for the New York State Department of Transportation in Hornell for 42 years retiring as a maintenance supervisor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving our country during the Vietnam War from 1966-68. Jerry enjoyed golfing with his buddies, gardening and woodworking and was an avid New York Giants football fan. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and was immensely proud of his children and grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Jerry is survived by a son Lucas (Lindy) Beyea of Cartersville, Ga, a daughter: Eileen Cole of Corning, six wonderful grandchildren: Sara Cole, Kaitlin (Autumn) Resides, Danielle Cole, Abigail Beyea, Matthew (Elizabeth) Cole and Benjamin Beyea and two great grandchildren: Norva Cole and Emmett Cole. Jerry is also survived by three sisters: Glenyce Wiltrout and Sharon Liddell both of Osceola, Arkansas, Donna Smith of Hornell, one brother: Paul Beyea of Troy, Pa. a brother-in-law Ray Waight of Canisteo and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 5 at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo followed by a memorial service with military honors. Burial will be in Bath National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Jerry's name may be made to Jones Memorial Hospital, c/o Jodi Pearson, 191 North Main St., Wellsville, N.Y. 14895.
