Cameron, NY | James E. Jackson, 81, of McMaster Road, Cameron, NY, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2016 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Jim was born in Cameron on June 22, 1935, the son of the late Francis and Mildred Hakes Jackson. He was a graduate of Addison Central School. On March 16, 1963, he and the former Charlotte M. Musto were married at the United Church of Jasper. Charlotte survives. Jim worked briefly on the railroad and after attending police officer training, he was employed by the Village of Bath Police Department. In 1964 Jim began a long career with the Corning Glass Works as a security officer. He gained their highest level of security which brought with it a great amount of responsibility, a role which he took great pride in. He retired from Corning Inc. with over 30 years of active service. Jim was a former member of the Cameron Fire Department and Ambulance Corp. He led as Captain of the Ambulance Corp for many years. Jim became an advanced NYS EMT and encouraged others in the Corp to do the same. Under his leadership, Cameron Ambulance became one of just a very few volunteer advanced EMS agencies in the region. He dedicated himself completely to the Corp during his time of active membership. Surviving Jim is his wife of 53 years, Charlotte Jackson at home, his son, James M. Jackson of Hornell, his grandchildren, Victoria and Jimmy Jackson, his brother, Stacy Jackson of Cameron and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Ivan Jackson, his sister, Roberta Jackson Dixon and his sister in law, Joan Jackson. Friends may call on Monday, Oct 31 from 1-3 and 6-8 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM at the Rathbone Methodist Church in Rathbone, with Pastor Morris Gridley Jr. officiating.
