Woodhull, NY | Jeffrey Smith, Jr., 84, of 5179 West Main Street, Woodhull, NY, died on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at his home surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Buffalo, NY, January 3rd, 1932, he was the son of Jeffrey and Veronica Kolinski Smith. A life resident of Woodhull, he graduated from Woodhull High School in 1949. He immediately joined the family businesses of H. P. Smith & Son and has been actively employed there since, with the exception of two years active duty (1952-1954) in the US Army, during the Korean Conflict. He served in the Army Reserve until 1960 and was discharged as 1st Lieutenant. He and his brother became active in the management of the business upon the disability of their father in 1956. They purchased the former Williams Funeral Home in Canisteo and later the former Ackerson Funeral Home in Addison. A free Mason since 1953, he was past Master of Restoration Lodge 777 (Woodhull) and Robinson Lodge 649 of Jasper. He is presently a member of Addison Union Lodge 118. He was a more than 50 year member of Addison Kiwanis Club, past President and past Secretary. Elected to the Board of Directors of the 1st National Bank of Addison in 1972; he was the last Chairman of the Board of it's successor, Community National Bank. Appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Town of Woodhull Cemetery in 1964, to which he served until his death. A United Methodist; he was a member of the Woodhull Church, past lay leader, lay speaker and trustee. He was a member of Steuben County, New York State and National Funeral Directors Association and it's Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers Association of NY. He served several terms as a director of the former Corning Chapter American Red Cross. He married Bernice L. Casinelli, April 26th, 1958 in the Woodhull United Methodist Church; she survives. Also, survivors are their children, Rebecca (Kelly) Beaver of Johns Creek, GA: Jeffrey Smith, III (Cathy) of Amherst, NY; Leslie B. Smith (Susan Kane and her daughters, Michele Banach, Emily Hynes and Allison Hynes) of Woodhull and Adam J. Smith of Brooktondale, NY, Grandchildren, Amy (Todd) Schwagler of North Tonawanda, NY, Andrea (Damion) Pope of Witchita Falls, TX and Jeffrey Ryan Smith of San Francisco, CA. His brother and lifetime business partner, Asa Thomas (Margaret) Smith of Canisteo, and great grandchildren, DJ, Tyler, Ashlyn and Aubrey, several nieces, nephews and cousins and his feline friends, Orville, Wilbur and Haddie. He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Smith on Sept. 30, 1993. Friends may call 6-8 pm on Sunday, Nov. 6 and 1-3 and 6-8 pm on Monday at the H. P. Smith, Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main Street, Woodhull, NY. Funeral Services will be conducted 11 am on Tuesday at the Woodhull United Methodist Church. The Rev. Brian Diffenbacher and The Rev. Morris Gridley will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will be in Woodhull Cemetery.
