Obituary of Margaret R. Mattison

CANISTEO: Margaret R. (Smith) Mattison, 98, formerly of the Swale Rd. passed away Sunday (Nov. 27, 2016) at the Highland Park Healthcare Center in Wellsville where she had resided since 2011. Margaret, better known as "Ruth" was born May 16, 1918 in the town of Canisteo to Murray H. and Nina Mae (Taft) Jones. In May of 1946 she married Russell M. Smith who predeceased her in December of 1993. In July of 1998 she remarried a second time to Hartlett L. Mattison who predeceased her in July of 2002. In addition to her two husbands Ruth was predeceased by two brothers: Rodney and Elwin Jones and a half- sister Clara Brownell. Ruth was a graduate of Jasper Central School and had attended the Pasadena Business College and Long Beach Secretarial College. Survivors include a nephew: William (Elane) Jones of Savoy, Ill. Three nieces: Sharyn (Orin) Riddell of Coronado, CA., Cynthia Lawhon of Port Huenene, Ca. and Pamela Willis of La Mesa, Ca. There will be no calling hours or funeral service. Burial will be made in Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo.
