Obituary of Ruth L. Schwabe

OSCEOLA/WELLSBORO: Ruth L. Schwabe, 91, formerly of Osceola, Pa. passed away Monday (Dec. 5, 2016) at the Broad Acres Nursing Home in Wellsboro, Pa. where she had resided since 2011. Ruth was born September 6, 1925 in Canisteo to William H. and Elsie M. (Puffer) Thompson. She married Wilbert C. Schwabe in Chicago, Ill. in 1965 and predeceased Ruth in October of 1993. Ruth was a graduate of Elkland High School and the St. James School of Nursing where she earned her registered nursing degree. She loved to travel and had worked as a nurse in Elmira, N.Y. and as far away as California. As a result of her work and traveling she met her husband at the First National Bank in Chicago where she was employed as a company nurse. Survivors include a brother: Theron (Phyllis) Thompson of Osceola, a sister: Patricia (Louis) Duretto of Wellsboro, sister-in-law Susan Thompson of Osceola as well as several nieces and nephews. Ruth was predeceased by two brothers: Gerald and William Thompson and two sisters: Catherine Teachman and Hattie Swetland. The family will receive friends from 1-3 pm Thursday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo where funeral and committal services will take place immediately following calling hrs. at 3:00 pm. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Canisteo. Memorial contributions in Ruth’s name may be made to the Community Valley Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 43, Elkland, Pa. 16920.
