CALEDONIA: James J. “Jim” Coleman, 90, of Main St. passed away Sunday (Jan. 29, 2017) at Rochester General Hospital following a short illness. Jim was born February 21, 1926 in Hornell to the late John J. and Mary M. (Simms) Coleman. On December 31, 1963 in Canisteo he married the former Julia M. Schoonover who survives and resides in Caledonia. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving our country proudly from 1948-52. He was employed as a custodian with the York Central School District retiring after 28 ½ years. He was a member of the Hornell VFW. In addition to his wife Julia, Jim is survived by two daughters: Melody (Gary) Harwood of Hornell and Melony Kelly of Satellite Beach, FL. Three sons: Michael Coleman of Caledonia, Mark (Cyndi) Coleman of Elizabethtown, KY. and Matt (Andrea) Coleman of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by two daughters; Marian Marie and Michelle Joan Coleman, two brothers: Robert and Harold Coleman and five sisters: Florence Buck, Irene Schutt, Marilyn Dolph, Phyllis Coleman and Lois Bailey. The family will receive friends from 4-8 pm Wednesday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, N.Y. Funeral services will take place Thursday at 10:00 am at the New Hope Wesleyan Church, 280 Grand St. in Hornell. Burial with military honors will be in Heritage Hill Cemetery, Arkport, NY. Memorial contributions in Jim Coleman’s name may be made to the Cornerstone Baptist Church, 4232 Reservoir Rd. Geneseo, N.Y. 14454.
