Obituary of Sylvia K. Haynes

HORNELL: Sylvia K. Haynes, 79, of Sawyer St. passed away Thursday, February 9,
2017 at Hornell Gardens, surrounded by her loving family, where she had resided since October of 2016.
Sylvia was born July 8, 1937 in North Hornell to the late Milford and Emma
(Welch) Parks. On January 27, 1957 in Canisteo she married Roger J. Haynes who predeceased her in February of 1996. She was also predeceased by a brother Lloyd Parks.
Sylvia was a graduate of Canisteo Central School and was a lifelong resident of the Canisteo Valley. She was a very loving and caring individual who was very active in the Foster Grandparenting programs in the area schools. She also spent time caring for children at the Children's' Home in Hornell and volunteering her time supervising children at the Hornell Recreation Center.
Sylvia had also been employed at the former Big Elms Restaurant in Hornell helping out where ever they needed her. Her greatest passion was her family. She was a very caring and loving mother, grandmother and friend who cherished her time spent with her family and friends.
Survivors include four sons: Michael (Dee) Haynes of Hornell, William (Valerie) Haynes of Albany, Steven (Phyllis) Haynes of Coudersport, Pa. and Joseph (Lindsay) Haynes of Hornell, five daughters: Robin (Skip) Loucks of Smethport, Pa., Sylvia James of Walpole, Mass., Mary (Doug) Mills of Avoca, Patricia Fry (Daniel Larson) of Wellsville and Dawn Haynes (Brian McGregor) of Hornell. 25 grandchildren, several great-grand and great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Sylvia is also survived by a sister: Patricia (Glen) Sharp of Canisteo.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo where funeral and committal services will take place Tuesday at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Canisteo.
