Obituary of Shirley Lorraine Harris

Shirley Lorraine Harris, 85, of St. Rte. 417, Addison, entered into rest on Friday, March 17, 2017 at Corning Hospital. Shirley was born in Tuscarora on March 18, 1931, the daughter of the late Edward C. and Myrtle F. Williams Housel. She was raised on the family farm there and was a 1950 graduate of Addison Central School. On June 21, 1952, she and Eugene L. Harris were married in the Addison United Methodist Church. Gene preceded her in death on Dec. 27, 1986. Shirley was employed as a young woman by the Ingersoll-Rand Co. for a short period of time. She spent most of her life as a homemaker and dairy farmer with her husband, son and grandsons. She also was a substitute teacher and aide at area schools for many years. Very active in her community, Shirley was a lifelong member of the Addison United Methodist Church, a member and past Matron of the Tuscarora-Woodhull OES Chapter, member of the Addison Grange 854, member of the Farm Bureau and a proud participant in the Addison Ladies Corral chorus group. Shirley was a Habitat for Humanity volunteer and had been a Girl Scout and 4-H leader. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Louise Harris of Addison, her son, David Harris (Sandy Howard) of Addison, her grandsons, Daniel (Julie) Harris and Dustin (Arica) Harris, all of Addison, great grandchildren, Alliee, Hailliee, Dustiee and DaniJo, step grandchildren, Christopher (Mikki) Snyder of Addison, Brian (Dawn) Snyder of Corning and Sherri (Michael) McFall of Lindley, former daughter in law, Carol Harris of Addison, several step great grandchildren, brother and sister in law, Robert and Joan Housel of Addison, sister in law, Lois Housel of Addison, brother in law, Henry Harris of Woodhull and many nieces and nephews. Shirley was predeceased by her brothers, Edward Housel, Leland Housel and Leonard Housel and her sister, Myrtle Wihn. Friends may call on Monday, March 20 from 1-3 and 7-9 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. An Eastern Star memorial service will be held there on Monday at 8:30 PM. Shirley’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM at the Addison United Methodist Church with Pastor Mark Flandreau officiating. Burial will follow in Addison Rural Cemetery.
