Obituary of Steaphen D. Houghtaling, Jr.

Steaphen D. Houghtaling, Jr.,70, of Hardscrabble Road, Addison, passed away on Friday. April 7, 2017 at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA. Born in Corning on December 17, 1946, Steve was a son of the late Steaphen and Esther (Cook) Houghtaling. On September 3, 1965, he and the former Charlotte Morse were married in Gang Mills. Charlotte survives. Steve worked in the construction business as a mason. He was employed by various contactors over the years including many years of service at Springfield Construction of Gettysburg, PA. An avid racing enthusiast, Steve raced and worked on race crews for over 40 years at tracks in Woodhull and Dundee. He loved to hunt and would pursue any quarry, be it deer, bears, turkeys or raccoons. His collection of game mounts is a testament to his love of hunting. Steve was a long time member of the Addison Eagles Aerie and was a past member and former Assistant Chief of the Tuscarora Fire Department. He was a devoted husband, dad and grandfather and cherished his time with family. Surviving is his wife of over 51 years, Charlotte Houghtaling at home, his son, Terry Houghtaling of Addison, his daughter, Debbie (Dean) Wilson of Addison, his grandchildren, Stephanie Wilson (Zach Church), Tonisha Wilson (Daniel Tompkins) and Garrett Wilson, his great grandchildren, Cole Bender, Kendra Wilson and Jonas Church, his brothers, Dennis (Sandy) Houghtaling and Stanley Houghtaling, both of Addison, his sisters, Cindy (Mike) Burns of Columbus, Ohio and Darcy Hanes of Addison along with many nieces, nephews and dear friends. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 13 at 12 noon at the Addison Eagles Club, St. Rte. 417, Addison, NY. A reception will follow the service. Burial will be made in Addison Hill Cemetery, Tuscarora. Memorials in Steve’s name may be made to the Addison Eagles Club.
