Shirley L. Carpenter Martin, age 71, of Tuscarora, NY, passed away suddenly and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 7 at Corning Hospital. Shirley was the daughter of the late James and Dorothy Fisher Carpenter and was born in Corning on April 25, 1945. She was a home health care aide and had worked for various home health care agencies over the years. Shirley was a homebody who enjoyed taking care of details of her home but especially loved time devoted to helping raise her grandchildren. She is survived by her two sons, James Easling (Mary) and Ray Martin (Cassandra), both of Tuscarora, 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandsons, sisters, Jane Hand of Monticello, FL and Lois Knapp of Addison, along with several nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold L. Martin on Dec. 27, 2004, her son, Michael Joseph Easling, her brothers, James Carpenter and David Carpenter and her sister, Ruth McIlwain Allyn. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 11 from 2-4 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow at 4 PM with Rev. Ted Brennan officiating. A dinner will follow services at the Addison Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in memory of Shirley be directed to the funeral home to help with final expenses.
