Obituary of Richard B. "Rick" Loban

Addison, NY | Richard B. “Rick” Loban, 63, of Addison Back Road, Addison, passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center following a time of poor health. Born in Elmira on November 13, 1953, Rick was the son of the late John L. and Gayle (Mapes) Loban. Raised in Addison, he was a 1973 graduate of Addison Central School. Rick loved the outdoors and this was evident with his choice of careers. He began a long history of working on golf courses and ski slopes. Starting with the Pinnacle in Addison, Rick was a ski instructor there in their early years. He eventually became a groundskeeper at Indian Hills Golf Course where he worked for many years. He retired from the Elmira Country Club. During the winter months, Rick was a ski instructor at Swain Ski Center in Swain, NY. On December 13, 1991, Rick married the former Cynthia Rude in Addison. Cindy survives. He loved to hunt, fish and ski as the outdoors was his element. Surviving is his wife, Cindy Loban of Addison, his two fur children, Elin & Quinn, his sisters, Babs Manges of North East, MD, Christy (Tim) Ryon of Chesterland, OH and Becky (Don) Russell of Smithville Flats, NY, his father in law, William Elwood Rude of Bath, Cindy’s siblings, Diane (Floyd) Sharp of Canisteo, Tom (Doris) Rude of Elmira and Bill (Tina) Rude of Campbell. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Monday, April 24 from noon to 2 PM at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow there at 2 PM with Rev. Robert Rochelle officiating. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery.
