Obituary of Robert D. House
Robert D. House, 72, of Grange St., Jasper, NY, passed away quite suddenly on Friday, August 25, 2017 at Absolut Care of Three Rivers in Painted Post, NY.
Born in Buffalo on April 2, 1945, Bob was the son of the late Edgar E. and Marion J. (Lowry) House. He was a 1964 graduate of Jasper Central School. On June 26, 1965, he and the former Paula J. Allen were married in Canisteo.
As a fourth-generation truck driver and milk hauler, Bob’s life always involved trucks in some manner. He owned and operated Robert House & Son Bulldog Trucking for many years as well as Bob’s Auto Sales & Service, both in Jasper. Bob retired from the Town of Jasper Highway Department where he was Superintendent of Highways. He was a certified OSHA and MSHA safety instructor.
He was a former member of the Jasper Grange, the West Jasper Wesleyan Church, the Southern Tier Bluegrass Association, the Buds & Blossoms Square Dance Club, and the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department, along with the Steuben County Highway Superintendents Association.
Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Paula House, children: Daphne Froelich (David Woodcock), Teresa (Marshall LaMonte) Trezevant, Robert House Jr. (Robyn Richtmeyer) and Kay Bixby, grandchildren: Devon Trezevant (TaiLynBercey), Lucas Froelich (Christy Christman), Sarah House, KyleSions, Matthew Bradbury, David Woodcock Jr. and Stephanie Woodcock, brothers: Ronald (Chris) House, Glenn House and Justin (Wendi) House, sisters: Bonnie (Gene) Matacle, Ann Banfield and Lisa (Tom) Davis, special niece Holly Tomb, along with numerous other nieces and nephews, dear friends; Lanny and Mary Calkins, George and Charlotte Schweigart, Ray and Sandy London, Richard and Carolyn Sullivan, Hazel Smith and Ron Southard and Pamela Trezevant.
Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Northrup, his brother, Zane House, and his sister-in-law, Janet House.
The family will receive friends on Friday, September 1st, from 12 to 3 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Bob’s funeral services will follow there at 3 pm with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating.
Burial will be made in Jasper Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family would appreciate memorial donations to any local volunteer fire department or ambulance corps.
