Obituary of Charles R. White
Dundee, NY | Charles R. White, 79, of Dundee, NY, formerly of Elmira, passed away peacefully on Sunday night, October 1, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family following a brief illness.
Born in Elmira on June 16, 1938, Charlie/Chuck was the son of the late Leon and Nettie (Flanders) White.
He enlisted in the US Army at age 17 and served from 1955 to 1958 where he was trained as an airborne paratrooper.
Charlie/Chuck worked as a machinist for several years, being employed at Fassett in Elmira Heights and Kennedy Valve in Elmira. In 1983 he began a 16 year career as a New York State corrections officer. He retired in 1999 from the Southport Correctional Facility.
61 years ago he married the former Gail Tuttle and together they had six children. She preceded him in death on Aug. 15, 2010. Charlie/Chuck later married Sharon Austin Ball. She survives.
Along with his first wife Gail, he was predeceased by his infant son Michael White and his brothers, Harold White and Roy White Sr.
Surviving are his wife of 3 years, Sharon White of Dundee, his children, William (Nancy) White of Pine City, Edward White of Bellfonte, PA, Michelle (David) Hurd of Dundee, Daniel (Angie) White of Elmira and Spencer White of Dundee, step sons, Timothy (Robin) Ball of Addison and Raymond (Desireah) Ball of Lindley, 23 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Friends may call on Saturday, October 7 from 4 to 6 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Funeral services will follow at 6 pm with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating.
Friends are invited to join the family for a reception following the service.
