Obituary of Elizabeth A. Smith

Elizabeth A. "Liz" Smith, 70, of Main St. Greenwood passed away Sunday evening, Oct. 15 at St. James Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.

Liz was born September 24, 1947 in Hornell to the late Francis and Frances (Finley) McGregor.

She was a graduate of Hornell High School and had been a life-long resident of the Canisteo Valley and Greenwood area. She was an avid "Bingo" enthusiast and loved to play cards with her family and friends. When health permitted she also enjoyed traveling. Liz will be remembered as a very giving and caring person who enjoyed the company of her family and friends.

Survivors include her friend and former husband Benjamin Smith of Greenwood, a daughter Mary Smith-Gerbes of Greenwood, son Benjamin Smith, Jr. of Greenwood and daughter-in-law Kathy Hurlburt-Smith also of Greenwood. 8 Grandchildren: Laken, Kiersten and Kassey Gerbes, Josh Howard, Eric Smith, Kaylee Pielow and Nikkilyn Smith, Justice Hurlburt one great grandson, Oliver Pielow. Liz is also survived by nieces, Jennifer Smith of Hornell, Lisa Cairl of Scranton, Pa. and a nephew Gary Smith of Canisteo. In addition to her parents Liz was predeceased by a son James F. Smith, two sisters, Sheila Shields and Donna Smith and a brother Gary Smith.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
