Obituary of William C. Edwards

HORNELL: William C. Edwards,74, of Madison Ave. passed away Friday evening, January 19, 2018 at his home surrounded by the comfort, love and care of his family following a courageous battle with cancer.

Bill was born September 12, 1943 in Theresa, NY to the late William T. and Rosemary (Bowles) Edwards. On July 29, 1967 in Hornell he married the former Marie Mead who survives and resides in Hornell.

Bill was self employed working at floor cleaning and refinishing in and around the Hornell area. He was a 25- year member of the Canisteo American Legion. He loved to play cards especially "Texas Hold'em" and he also enjoyed pitching horseshoes in many of the area tournaments.

In addition to his wife Marie, Bill is survived by two daughters: Marty (David)Bracket and Roxanne (John) Alley all of Hornell, a son, Casey (Pam) Edwards of Avon, 8 grandchildren, Allison, Emily and Venessa Edwards, Ryan and Billy McLoughlin, Patty Bracket, Mikenzie and Rileigh Alley. Bill is also survived by five brothers, Bruce (Becky) Edwards of FL. Theodore "Teddy" Edwards of Bath, Kim Edwards of Calif. Scott Edwards and Todd Edwards of Hornell, six sisters, Dawn (Gene) Hickey of Batavia, Darryl (Louis) O'Dell of Arkport, Dru (Michael) Hill of Bath, Dana (Earl) Flint of Arkport, Denise Edwards and Kelly (Claude) Comardo of Hornell, and many nieces and nephews.

Bill was predeceased by his parents, his sons, Billy, Steven and Tracy Edwards, a sister, Dee Ranger and a brother, Timothy Edwards.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Tuesday, January 23, at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, where a prayer service will take place at the conclusion of calling hours at 8:00 pm followed by military honors. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
