Obituary of Helen R. Stewart

CANISTEO: Helen R. Stewart, 89, formerly of Nicholson Rd. passed away peacefully Sunday evening, January 28, 2018 at Hornell Gardens where she had resided since 2011.

 

Helen was born October 9, 1928 in Bath, the daughter of Leon and Gertrude Roe. On March 28, 1948 she married Dean Stewart who predeceased her in September of 1998.

 

Helen was a graduate of Haverling Central school in Bath. After high school she had been a switchboard operator for a short period of time. She also worked at the former Westinghouse Co. in Bath and for 13 years worked for Steuben County Home Care. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved to tend her flower garden and enjoyed many summer picnics with family and friends, especially with her grandchildren. Helen was also a life member of the Buena Vista Wesleyan Church.

 

Helen is survived by a daughter Darlene Carnes of Canisteo, three sons, Darwin Stewart of Bath, George Stewart of Canisteo and Garold (Marie) Stewart of Canisteo, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

 

The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm Thursday, February 1 at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo where a funeral service will take place Friday at 11:00 am with Pastor Daniel Pickering officiating. Burial will be in the Towlesville Cemetery.

 

Memorial contributions in Helen’s name may be made to Buena Vista Wesleyan Church, 6034 Cty. Rte. 69, Canisteo, NY 14823.
