Obituary of Shirley M. Plaisted

Troupsburg, NY | Shirley M. Plaisted, 79, of McAllister Road, Troupsburg, NY passed away at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 following a sudden illness at home.

            Born in Addison, NY on December 6, 1938, Shirley was the daughter of Hollis and Flora Stanford Oakden. She was a graduate of Addison Central School.

            On October 5, 1957, she and Walter W. Plaisted were married on the farm that became their home in Troupsburg. Walter Bill, as he was known, preceded her in death on January 31, 1994.

            Shirley was a homemaker and partner with her husband on the family dairy farm. She made her home, family and farm her life, pouring her efforts into taking care of those very dear parts of her life. She loved all of her animals from the farm stock to her pets. Shirley had an artistic flair and her leisure time was spent creating pottery items as well as painting.

            She is survived by her children and their spouses, Walter Plaisted and his wife Katie Cline of Troupsburg, James and Peggy Plaisted of Troupsburg, Nancy Plaisted of Valley Cottage, NY, Brenda Delill Dole and husband Rick Dole of Forestville, NY and Flora and Paul Piperato of Thiells, NY, 15 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, her sisters, Joan (Vaughn) Bates of Hornell and Sue McCann of Binghamton, her brother, Larry Oakden of Hammondsport and several nieces and nephews.

            Besides her husband Walter Bill, Shirley was predeceased by her daughter, Beverly Plaisted and her brothers, Francis and Wayne Oakden.

            Friends may call on Sunday, February 11 from 1 to 2:30 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 29 E. Main St. Canisteo, NY. A funeral service will follow there at 2:30.

            Burial will be in Young Hickory Cemetery, Troupsburg, NY.
