Obituary of Lewis Hugh Hilborn

       Lewis Hugh Hilborn, 85, of Cty. Rte. 100, Addison (Town of Woodhull), passed away at home on Thursday, March 8, 2018.

       Born in the Town of Tuscarora on May 27, 1932, Lewis was the son of the late Hugh and Sara Porter Hilborn. He was a graduate of Addison Central School and attended the London Bible Institute in London, Ontario.

       On August 20, 1960, he and the former Barbara Richardson were married at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Elmira.

       Lewis and Barb operated a farm together for many years in Woodhull. Lewis developed a sight disability and they gave up their farming operation. He and Barb and family moved to Florida for several years where they found work in the lawn care business. They eventually returned to Borden where they have made their home ever since. Lewis never allowed his vision loss to prevent him performing everyday tasks. His hearing and touch compensated for what he couldn’t visualize. Riding in a vehicle, he could tell the driver exactly where they were at any given time. He loved being outdoors, be it working on farm equipment, splitting firewood or making maple syrup. He enjoyed playing his harmonicas right up until the day prior to his death.

       He and Barb were very active members of the Tuscarora Baptist Church and had been members of the former Borden Grange.

       Surviving is his wife of 57 years, Barbara Hilborn at home, his children, Andrew Hilborn of Maine, Addie Herrington of Addison and Amy Gabel of Addison, his grandchildren, Stephanie Potter, Anthony Herrington, Mandi Risley, Erik Bruce and Matthew Drake, his great grandchildren, Hailey Potter, Trinity Herrington, Alexis Potter, Madison Potter, Lily Risley, Harper Risley and Kaydence Herrington, his brothers, Douglas Hilborn of Addison and David Hilborn of Arlington, TN, several nieces and nephews and special friends, Audrey and Joe Ogrodowski.

       Friends may call on Monday, March 12 from 3 to 5 pm at the Tuscarora Baptist Church, Cook Rd., Addison. A memorial service will follow there at 5 pm with Pastor Rollin Howard officiating.

       In lieu of flowers, donations in Lewis’ memory are suggested to the Tuscarora Baptist Church.
