Obituary of Mildred M. Dye

BATH: Mildred M. “Millie” Dye, 83, of Chamberlain Road passed away Sunday evening, April 8, 2018 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira following an extended illness.

 

Millie was born July 27, 1934 in Hornell to John and Edith (Rowe) Mehlenbacher. On November 8, 1952 in South Hornell she married Gordon Dye who survives and resides in Bath.

 

Millie was a life-long resident of the Canisteo Valley and Bath area and had been a Welfare Examiner for the Steuben County Dept of Social Services for 25 years. After retirement, she catered many local events through Creekside Catering of Avoca for 10 years. She also assisted her husband Gordon with their meat processing business on Chamberlain Road.

 

Millie was a member of the Avoca Methodist Church and had also attended both the Cohocton and Kanona United Methodist Churches in recent years. She was a member of the former Hornell Grange where she held many of the organization’s offices. Crocheting was one of her favorite pastimes and she enjoyed collecting “bells” of all shapes and sizes.

 

Millie will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend who’s sense of humor always brought a smile to your face.

 

In addition to her husband of 65 years, Gordon Dye, of Bath, Millie is survived by two sons, Michael and Thomas Dye of Bath, two daughters Judy (Guy) McGlynn and Sue (Joseph) VanGelder all of Bath, 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Millie was predeceased by her parents, a son Joseph Dye, 2 grandchildren, Shelby and Nicholas Dye and a brother, James Mehlenbacher.

 

The family will receive friends from 4-7 pm Thursday, April 12 at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo, where funeral and committal services will take place immediately following calling hours at 7:00 pm. with the Rev. Lenny Fuller officiating.

 

Memorial contributions in Millie’s name may be made to the Cohocton United Methodist Church, 27 Maple Ave. Cohocton, N.Y. 14826.
