Obituary of Dora C. Eccleston
Dora C. “Dolly” Eccleston, 77, of Bunker Hill Road, Addison, (Town of Tuscarora), passed away on Sunday morning, May 27, 2018 at Absolut Care of Three Rivers in Painted Post.
Dolly was born in Corning, NY on October 6, 1940, the daughter of the late Gerald and Margarette Leonard Hazen. She was a graduate of Horseheads High School.
On May 1, 1959, she and Earl L. Eccleston were married at the First Presbyterian Church of Addison. Dolly was first and foremost a homemaker but had also held various jobs throughout her life. She had worked as a nurse’s aide at Three Rivers as well as Green Meadows Assisted Living Center. She had operated the Lame Duck ceramic studio and later the Blue Ribbon Diner in Addison. Dolly had been a clerk and handicapper at Woodhull Raceway for many years. She and Earl were a part of the raceway family since its inception.
Dolly gave most of her adult life to service of the Tuscarora Fire Department and Ambulance Corps. She was the former president and secretary/treasurer of the department as well as a past Captain of the Ambulance Corp. She had also been a CPR and First Aide instructor.
Surviving are her husband of 59 years, Earl Eccleston of Tuscarora, her children and their partners, Gerry and Tammy Eccleston of Addison, Earl Calvin Eccleston and Margie Pavlick of Addison, Dawn and Tim Vargeson of Addison and Michaela “Missy” and Doug Reed of Addison, 16 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, her sister, Patricia Breault of Tupper Lake, NY, her brother, Thomas (Gizele) Hazen of Oklahoma, her sister in law, Margie Eccleston, her brothers in law, Larry Eccleston and Al (Susan) Eccleston, her best friend “Gizmo” and several nieces and nephews.
Dolly was preceded in death by her infant son, Leroy Eccleston in 1964, her parents, Gerald and Margarette Hazen, her brothers, Michael Hazen and Frank Hazen and her sister, Susie Clemont.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 31 from 6 to 8 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull. Dolly’s funeral service will follow there at 8 pm with Rev. Troy Preston officiating.
Burial will be made in Addison Rural Cemetery.
