Obituary of Anna M. McCormick
CANISTEO/ALMOND: Anna M. McCormick, 92, formerly of Canisteo Manor passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Elderwood of Hornell where she had resided since 2017.
Anna was born on July 4, 1925 in Hornell to Chauncey J. and Alice (Cornell) Ersley. On July 2, 1949 in Rexville, she married Cyril McCormick who predeceased her in 1986. In addition to her parents and husband, Anna was predeceased by an infant son Kevin McCormick, 2 Grandchildren, Sean McCormick and Megan Palmiter, two brothers, Chauncey J. Ersley, Jr. and Ronald Ersley, and two sisters, Rita Ersley and Catherine McCabe.
Anna was a graduate of Greenwood Central school class of 1942. She received a business degree at the former Dales Business school in Hornell in 1943 and from there went to work for the Dept of the Navy at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. until 1946. She returned to Almond and worked as a secretary at Sterns and Sterns in Hornell until 1952. Along with being a house wife and mother, Anna continued her secretarial work and book keeping at St. Brendan's Catholic Church in Almond from 1970 - 1998. She also served as Almond Town Clerk and Tax Collector for three years from 1981-84.
Anna is survived by six children, Carolyn Hickox of Painted Post, Richard McCormick (Debbie Cox) of Canisteo, Patricia (Kevin) Palmiter of Alfred Station, James McCormick of Almond, Linda McCormick of Painted Post and Eileen (Michael) Neu of Hornell. 10 grandchildren, Daniel Hickox, Christine
(David) Brooks, Andrew McCormick, Aaron McCormick, Curtis (Dawn) Palmiter, Timothy Palmiter, Matthew (Stephanie) Palmiter, Madison McCormick, Stephanie Crombie and Katie (Jake) Herbert, six great grandchildren, Tyrese Jamison, Anthony Brooks, Olivia and Emma Palmiter, Claire and Lincoln Herbert. Anna is also survived by a brother, Emmett (Marlene) Ersley, two sisters, Mary Cornelia (Thomas) Dean and Patricia (Richard) Clippard, several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2-5 pm Sunday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo. A Mass and Christian burial will take place Monday at 11:00 am at St. Brendan's Catholic Church in Almond. Burial will be in St. Mary's Churchyard Cemetery in Rexville, N.Y.
