Obituary of Anna C. McCormick

CANISTEO: Anna C. McCormick, 98, of Maple St. passed away Thursday (June 28, 2012) at the Livingston County Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Mt. Morris where she had been a patient since February of 2012. Anna was born August 16, 1913 in Jasper to Bernard and Mary A. (Dunne) Harkenrider. On October 10, 1930, at St. Mary's Church in Rexville, she married Merrill J. McCormick who predeceased her in December of 1999. She was also predeceased by two brothers: Francis and Donald Harkenrider and a sister Teresa Congdon. Anna was a graduate of Greenwood High School and was a member of the former St. Joachim's Catholic Church in Canisteo where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a home maker and had also worked at the former Smith's Furniture Manor in Canisteo as a book keeper and clerk. Anna and her husband had lived for a time in Rexville where they worked a small dairy farm. In 1948 they moved to their Maple St. home in Canisteo where Anna lived until 2010 selling her home and moving to the Updyke Home in Hornell. Survivors include several nieces, nephews and many close friends. The family will receive friends from 3-7 PM Monday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo. A Mass of Christian burial will take place Tuesday at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rexville. Burial and committal will be in the St. Mary's Churchyard Cemetery in Rexville. Memorial contributions in Anna McCormick's name may be made to Steuben Rural Ministries, West Main St. Canisteo, N.Y. 14823.
