Obituary of Ronald E. Grist
Addison, NY | Ronald E. Grist, 75, of High St. Addison, entered into rest on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Corning Hospital.
Born in Hornell, NY on March 29, 1943, Ron was the son of the late Roy E. and Erna LeBarron Grist. He was raised in Troupsburg and attended Troupsburg Central School.
On February 5, 1966, he and the former Sharon A. Post were married in Wellsville, NY.
As a teenager, Ron worked on various farms in the Troupsburg area. He took a job with Lincoln Mercury Auto in Wellsville and later worked as a maintenance man at the Wellsville Airport. Ron then began a career of over 30 years, originally with the Ingersoll Rand Co. in Painted Post and eventually retiring from Dresser Rand there. He was employed as a fork lift operator.
Ron loved anything John Deere. He was a collector and restorer of classic John Deere tractors and also old "hit and miss" motors. He would display and demonstrate his collection of engines at the Steuben County Fair as well as other gatherings of collectors. He was also a die hard New York Yankees fan.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Sharon at home, his son, Jeffrey (Phyllis) Grist of Cameron Mills, his daughter, Judy Woodworth (Shaminder Singh) of Iva, SC, his grandchildren, Mark, Michael, Matthew, Zackary, Dakota, Titiana and Dylon, his special niece, Sandy Mann, his siblings, Lucinda Ordiway of Greenwood, Susan Carroll of Norfolk, VA, Gayle Thomas of Woodhull, Darleen English of Woodhull, Nancy (Daniel) Kimble of Unicoi, TN, Anne Dengler of Lawrenceville, PA, Wendy (Earl) Borden of Wellsboro and Eric (Kerri) Grist of Elkland, PA, his best friend and companion, Lily, many nieces, nephews and cousins and the family of dear friend Julia Noyes.
Ron was preceded in death by his son, Douglas R. Grist on October 1, 1994, his brother, David Grist and his brothers in law, G. Louis English and Wayne Dengler.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 9 from noon to 2 pm at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY. Ron’s funeral services will follow there at 2 pm with Rev. Mort Gridley officiating.
Burial will follow in Woodhull Cemetery.
