Obituary of Jonas A. VanOrsdale

       Elkland, PA | Jonas A. VanOrsdale, 80, of Elkland, PA, entered into rest on Tuesday, September 25 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira.

       Born in Corning, NY on May 7, 1938, Jonas was the son of the late Andrew and Lena (Thomas) VanOrsdale.

       He was a longtime employee of the Ingersoll Rand Co. in Painted Post where he worked as a casting cleaner in the foundry there. Jonas was a member of the Troupsburg United Methodist Church as well as a member and past Assistant Chief of the Elkland Fire Dept. A very avid outdoorsman, Jonas loved to fish and hunt and often made fishing trips to Canada. He also loved music as he was raised in a musical family.

       Jonas is survived by his wife, Nancy VanOrsdale at home, his daughter and son in law, Tammy and Rick Churches of Elmira Heights, his step daughters, Melissa (Jimmy) Doan and Lisa Neal, his grandchildren, Josey VanOrsdale (Bert), Kadie (Trentyn) Beebe, Shania VanOrsdale, Casey Churches and Bradley Churches, 4 step grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren, his sisters, Anna White of Troupsburg and Beverly (Clair) Lewis of Jasper, his canine pal, Rascal and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

       He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Donnie in 1978, his daughter Debbie Bolf in 2010, his son Joey in 2016, his sisters, Janice and Joanna, both infants, his sister and brother in law, Betty and Clarence Prutsman, his sister Janette and his brother in law, Wilfred White.

       A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, September 29 at 11 am at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St. Woodhull, NY.

       Burial will be made in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Troupsburg.   

       In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made the Elkland Vol. Fire Dept., 105 Parkhurst St. Elkland, PA16920.
